Lest We Forget

November, the month to remember our veterans and the soldiers who kept peace by paying with their lives and we pay our tribute to them with 2 min. of silence, and an assembly to mourn those who died in the war.

Unfortunately, war still exists to this very day. Canadian forces are still in Afghanistan defending our country and to help the citizens of Afghanistan, and soldiers there die everyday and their coffins are sent back to Canada on Remembrance Day and they were given honour, respect, and a formal burial by our surviving veterans of WWI and WWII.

Our assembly was actually at 10 am because the cafeteria couldn't fit both grades and the gr. 8's gets to go at 10:45 where they took part in the real 2 min. of silence (that's not fair, we should get to mourn our war heroes at the right time!). Now, back to our assembly, it was silent all the way with Mrs. Howells and Mrs. Gassi playing music especially written for these occasions and we watched a slideshow and a video called:"A Pittance of Time" (Click on the name to download the song), and tears came out of my eyes when I saw this emotional and powerful video and I thought of how many families war has torn apart and how many people are still sad about their brave son, husband, brother, and so on. It is indeed a day of sadness and it's definitely a day to remember and be thankful of what we have now, because without our war heroes and their lives, Canada would not be what it is now: a free and democratic country.

School Yearbook

As we approach the holidays, I find myself to have little time left to finish our class yearbook page (yes, I'm in charge with it and sorry, no more spots available for new joiners!). The worst thing about the yearbook is that I can't seem to make the page the way I want it to be due to some umm... ahem.... technical difficulties... oh who am I kidding! It's the yearbook website that won't let me shrink pictures down to size!

OK, let’s forget about the publishing of the yearbook for now because this post is more based on the fun of photoshopping everyone in my class (YAY!!!)! So, I was deciding how the class page should look like when I came across the idea of putting some kind of goofy body on everyone, and that became the foundation of the page.

Now, since I have no idea how to use Photoshop, I started watching a series of 105 tutorial videos on Photoshop in Chinese (each video is about 5 minutes, so 105 times 5= 525 min. or 8 hrs. and 45 min. and don’t bother asking why it is in Chinese)! Fortunately, I know what to do after about a dozen tutorials, and I started cutting everyone’s head off from the class picture (yes, that includes my homeroom teacher), then I called a yearbook meeting discussing what to put on who, and soon, I pasted the bodies onto everyone and have a grand collection of heads, bodies, and the finished work!

Now I have the class photoshopped, I just have to figure out how to fit everyone onto the class page, if anyone has an idea, leave it in the comments section (the page is standard paper size). Now to finish this post, I will put up some of my class after they have been photoshopped. Enjoy!

Hallowe'en!!!

As we end the month of October, we come to the scary holiday called Hallow's Eve or more commonly known as Halloween! MWAHAHAHAHA!!! (There’s an excellent Halloween game that I strongly recommend at the bottom of the post, read the instructions, or you can’t play!)

Before I start, I like to congratulate my cousin for her new-born baby and me for becoming a... umm.... hmm.... ah, forget it, I could never figure out family ranks in my humongous family, but still, I'm becoming something close to an uncle, I guess (YAY!!!!).

Now, back on topic, Halloween, we had a school dance and I dressed up as Darth Vader with lightsaber and everything (scary, huh?). Everyone had a variety of options, and they are:
1. Go to the dance ($3)
2. Go cooking ($3)
3. Go to art class ($1)
4. Study Hall ($1)
5. Go home (Free, requires parent’s permission though)

Since I went to the dance, I’ll talk about it (I feel bad for Oscar, my friend, who paid to do homework and be bored). The dance we had was supposedly awesome (said by the majority of people, and those people doesn’t include me), but I found it to be boring, because I thought the music was going to blow my ears right off (Although I liked most of the songs), and the lighting was definitely not one of my favourites (I don't like it to be dark and have all the bright, colourful lights all concentrated in the same spot, but I have to say it’s not lights you get to see every day), now, I can live with the music and the lights, but the worst thing of all was standing there doing almost nothing for the whole afternoon! That's right, almost nothing except going to the Haunted house which wasn’t all that scary, just pitch black with Halloween decorations on the walls, wavy curtains, and people jumping out or grabbing you from behind the curtains, but those people didn’t hide themselves very well (I saw them a few meters before I reached them), oh well, at least I get a free piece of candy at the end.

Last thing about the dance was costume prizes to the best male, female, twins (it changed to triplets after a while), and the funniest costume. Best male was Michael Jackson, a triplet, a pregnant woman as the funniest costume, but the funniest thing that happened was that the best female costume was won by some guy named Dexter!!! What do you know!

Now I probably should wrap up, before I go, I added this creepy Halloween game to this post (sorry it’s Chinese, but thankfully only the instructions are Chinese so a 1st grader can play this, although they might be scared to death)

So basically, press the 6 Chinese letters at the last line you see in the game, which is the following:

This is a game that is based on Find the Difference, but it has differences. Basically, you have to find the differences by clicking the left mouse button so you can repel the invisible spirits, and also don’t click randomly or you lose the power to repel the spirits and trust me, you don’t want that to happen, by the way, turn the volume up nice and loud because it will give you hints, now when you are ready, press the 8 Chinese letters that are in yellow, they look like this:

There you go, that’s all there is to it, enjoy the game!

The 2016 Olympic Games Location Decided!

The 2016 Summer Olympics, Games of the XXXI Olympiad, was decided on Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 to be hosted in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; becoming the first ever city to host the Olympics in South America!

The bidding process for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games was officially launched on 16 May 2007. Four candidate cities were chosen for the shortlist on 4 June 2008: Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, and Tokyo (which hosted the 1964 Summer Olympics).

The final voting was held on October 2, 2009, in Copenhagen with Chicago and Rio de Janeiro perceived as favorites to land the games. Chicago was surprisingly eliminated after the 1st round of voting. In the 2nd round Tokyo was eliminated, while Rio de Janeiro took a significant lead over Madrid heading into the final round. The lead held and Rio de Janeiro was announced as host.

The 2016 Summer Olympic program is scheduled to feature 26 sports. Baseball and softball, which were dropped from the program in 2005, karate, squash, golf, roller sports (inline speed skating) and rugby union all applied to be included, whether we will see them in the games is unknown as of now. It is also estimated that 205 nations and 12500 athletes will be participating the 2016 Olympics.
